    Case Law Update Featuring Speaker Dr. Adam Scott Goldberg, J.D.l

    Adam is a sought-after speaker for Charitable Gift Planning Association across the state of Florida. We are honored to have him as our guest speaker in June. He will be presenting on Caselaw Updates topics such as, Private Letter Rulings for Exempt Purposes, Anticipatory Assignment of Income, Proper Appraisals, Bargain Sale, Crypto Currency, and much more.


    BIOGRAPHY

    DR. ADAM SCOTT GOLDBERG DR. ADAM SCOTT GOLDBERG practices as a tax, probate and estate planning attorney as a partner with the Martindale-Hubbell A.V. rated firm of REVIS, HERVAS & GOLDBERG with its main office in Weston, Florida. Adam is admitted to the Florida and Federal Bars and holds a Masters of Law Degree (LL.M.) in Estate Planning from the University of Miami, as well as a Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree and a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) from Nova Southeastern University. Adam is a member of the United States Tax Court and was admitted to the United States Supreme Court in April of 2012. Adam has authored articles and made presentations in the areas of estate planning, tax exempt organizations, probate, ethics, planning for disability, tax litigation and planned giving. He is a Past President of the West Broward Estate Planning Council, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Tax Council and the Planned Giving Council of Broward County. Dr. Goldberg is a member of the Tax Section and the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Florida Bar. He is entering into his nineteenth year of service as the Co-Chairman of the Florida Bar’s Exempt Organizations Committee. Adam teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law, Florida State University School of Business and Nova Southeastern University College of Law. Adam is a frequent lecturer for numerous charitable groups such as American Lung Association, American Cancer Society, Broward College and the National Safety Council, and for professional groups such as the Florida Banker’s Association, The Florida Institute of CPAs, The International Society for Performance Improvement and The Florida Bar. Adam has been named as a Florida Super Lawyer in Tax every year since 2017 and has recently graduated from the Florida Fellows Institute sponsored by The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

    Converting Non-Cash Passion Assets into Charitable Impact

    This presentation will educate the attendees on the state of the art and collectible markets. The attendees will also understand how to use non-cash passion assets toward philanthropic impact and also how to create a legacy using collections.

    TOPICS COVERED –

    When are art, jewelry and collectibles considered a valuable asset?

    How can these assets be used toward charitable impact?

    How can a legacy be created using non-cash passion assets?

    What are the benefits of gifting non-cash passion assets to a donor advised fund?

    How can a charity accept non-cash passion assets?

    Speaker: Colleen Boyle. CAP®

    Colleen brings over 20 years of diverse experience in the art and financial world to The Fine Art Group. She has valued art and collectibles for international corporations, museums, and private collectors across the globe. Colleen has provided legal analysis for court cases involving art valuation and identification.

    Colleen earned a diploma in French Fine and Decorative Arts at Christie’s in Paris as well as a Masters in Art History from The University of Saint Thomas and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from The College of William & Mary. Colleen is a founding member of the Private Risk Management Association (PRMA) and is a board member for the Professional Advisors to the International Art Market (PAIAM).

    Having earned the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy designation (CAP®), Colleen regularly assists clients with monetization strategies of tangible assets for charitable endeavors as well as identifying institutions for direct donations. She is a nationally sought-after speaker and conducts presentations, podcasts and Continuing Education classes on diverse topics pertinent to art and collectibles. Colleen is also featured in a documentary titled “The Real Fake.”

    After the Sunset: Charitable Gift Planning in Light of Expiring Tax Provisions

    The individual tax provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) are set to expire at the end of 2025 absent Congressional action. What will that mean for your donors and their charitable giving? We will explore the potential tax implications and opportunities. 

    Speaker: Toria Bartlett, CPA

    Toria has more than 35 years of public accounting experience in the UK and US. In the last decade, she was a partner in a large national firm and an owner in a well-regarded St. Petersburg based firm. She is a licensed CPA in Florida and Pennsylvania and a long-standing member of the AIPCA and FICPA. She is a past president of the Suncoast Estate Planning Council, has authored articles for CPA journals, and presented tax topics for many professional organizations. Toria started VRB Tax & Consulting to follow her passion of working closely with clients navigating tax laws, estate planning, and succession planning.  Toria volunteers with the Early Learning Coalition’s Reading Pals initiative and is the treasurer of Realize Bradenton. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, crossword puzzles, and cycling around beautiful Manatee County.

    Leveraging AI in Charitable Gift Planning 
    for 2024 and Beyond

    In this presentation, Paul Caspersen, CFP®, AEP®, MS will provide the latest information and trends in the dynamic evolution of AI in charitable gift planning. Participants will delve into a systematic 5-step process for analyzing charitable gifts, juxtaposed with the latest planned giving research tools. Caspersen will discuss best practices for incorporating AI and other technologies into technical planned giving research, and donor communication. Through compelling case studies, he will illustrate the successful integration of these technologies in the field. The session will be enriched by interactive dialogue, inviting audience contributions on their current use of AI in planned giving strategies. This presentation promises to furnish attendees with actionable insights.

    Speaker:  Paul Casperson, CFP®, AEP®, MS

    Paul Caspersen brings complex financial thinking to the charitable planning field. As a Certified Financial Planner, Paul has 26 years of financial, estate, and charitable planning experience. Between 2012-2022, he served as Assistant Vice President and Sr. Philanthropic Advisor at the University of Florida, where his Gift Planning team closed $1.25 billion (of the Campaigns $4 billion total) in deferred gifts and outright gifts of complex assets. Prior to his position at the University of Florida, he led the Gift Planning program at Iowa State University. Before specializing in planned giving, Paul spent a decade working in financial services. Paul is the founder of Planned Giving Interactive (PGI), a charitable planning software & consulting organization. PGI is an affiliate organization to Charitable Solutions LLC, the largest national consulting firm that provides charities with risk management solutions for non-cash donations and charitable gift annuities. He is also a national board member of The National Association of Estate Planners & Councils (NAEPC), which has over 270 member estate planning councils and provides services to their estimated 30,000 individual members. In 2011 Caspersen published the book “Direction Memo: How to Write a Letter of Instructions for Your Estate Plan,” and is regularly published in peer-reviewed journals such as Trusts & Estates. Caspersen graduated with honors from the College for Financial Planning, in Denver, CO with a master’s in financial planning & taxation and an undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Business Communications. When not working, Paul enjoys marathon training, cooking, golfing, and spending time with his wife Dana and two sons, Gabe and Garner.
