Charitable Gift Planning

This presentation will provide an update on which of the tax law changes that impact charitable gift planning enacted in the past two years as part of the COVID relief measures have expired and which have not.  We will also discuss recent tax law changes that become effective January 1, 2022 and explore charitable gift planning  ideas in light of those changes.

SPEAKER BIOS:

Beth Levin is the Director of Philanthropy at TOP Jewish Foundation, where she assists donors with their philanthropy and leads the legacy giving program.  Prior to joining TOP in 2017, Beth worked in development at the Jewish Federation of Greater Metrowest in NJ.  Before moving to the nonprofit arena, Beth worked as an investment consultant for a large benefit consulting firm for over 20 years. Beth currently serves on the National Board of Woman of Reform Judaism, and is a founding board member of the Steven M. Rothbard Foundation.

Laurie Valentine is a member of the Wills, Trusts and Estates Team at Battaglia, Ross, Dicus, & McQuaid, P.A. (BRDM) in St. Petersburg.  Prior to joining BRDM in August 2021, she was a wills, trusts and estates attorney at Fisher & Sauls, P.A. (1982 – 1993; 2017 – 2021). Her law practice is concentrated in the areas of estate planning, will and trust preparation, probate and trust administration, charitable gift planning, and business succession planning.  Prior to her return to private practice in October 2017, Ms. Valentine served for more than 23 years as Trust Counsel and Chief Operating Officer of the Kentucky Baptist Foundation in Louisville, Kentucky.

Laurie has spoken on a variety of estate planning, charitable gift planning, and incapacity planning topics at seminars sponsored by Suncoast Estate Planning Council, Charitable Gift Planners of Tampa Bay, Diocese of St. Petersburg, National Catholic Development Conference, the American Council on Gift Annuities, Crescendo Interactive, Philanthropy Planning Group of Greater New York, The Florida Bar, and Louisville Bar Association.

Laurie has also been involved in various professional and community organizations over the past 40 years, including service 2001 - 2021 on the board of the American Council of Gift Annuities.  She is currently serving as a member of Community Foundation Tampa Bay (CFTB) Board; chair of the CFTB Pinellas County Advisory Council; and as President of CGP of Tampa Bay.

She has a B.A. in Speech Pathology from the University of Florida (1978) and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida College of Law (1981).
