When a donor approaches a charity with a complex, high-value asset, too many transformative gifts flatline before they ever reach the operating table. In this dynamic, story-driven session, we examine what happens when gift planning encounters seemingly insurmountable complications—and why saying "we can't accept this" shouldn't be our automatic diagnosis. Drawing an engaging parallel to the high-stakes problem-solving of medical dramas, this presentation dissects real-world complex gifts on the brink of death, and maps out how fundraisers, legal counsel, and professional advisors can collaborate to diagnose obstacles, pivot deal structures, and navigate IRS complexities to save the gift. Attendees will leave with a collaborative diagnostic framework to evaluate complex illiquid assets, partner effectively with the donor's advisory team, and turn "impossible" gift inquiries into closed, life-changing philanthropy.
